Miss Spain was crowned Miss World 2015 on Saturday. Mireia Lalaguna Royo — a 23-year-old model from Barcelona — took the top prize in the 65th edition of the pageant held this year in Sanya, China.
Royo takes over the crown from the 2014 winner Rolene Strauss of South Africa. “Just because I am beautiful on the outside does not mean I am not beautiful on the inside, too,” said Miss Spain — who has a degree in Pharmacology and wants to do a MA in Nutrition.

A total of 114 women competed. Miss Russia, Sofia Nikitchuk, 22, placed second, while Miss Indonesia, Maria Harfanti, 23, came in third place. Miss Jamaica, Sanneta Myrie, 24, and Miss Lebanon, Valerie Abou Chacra, 23, were in the top five.
Miss Canada was banned by China for speaking up about human rights abuses, and this was neatly left out of the show. Instead, the beauty queen was quietly removed from the Miss World website and not mentioned in the show.
“After I got on the phone with the (Sanya) customs officials … they told me I was not eligible for a visa but there was no explanation given,” Lin told CTV News Channel on Saturday. “I was really excited to have this chance to go back to China. I miss the people there.”
